How can I improve the appearance of my teeth?
This is perhaps one of the most common questions we receive on a daily basis, and it actually varies from person to person. We may suggest porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, prosthetic teeth, and replacing metal dental work with modern aesthetic restorations. Your smile may benefit from a cosmetic gum lift, or other cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as Invisalign®. What’s the difference between metal and tooth-colored fillings?
An amalgam filling contains a mixture of gold or silver, mercury, and other metals. This has been the material of choice for dentists in the past, but lately there’s been concern about potential health issues caused by leaking mercury. To avoid the dangers associated with mercury poisoning, we fill cavities with safe, durable composite resin. This material is very durable, and can be tinted to match your natural tooth color. Houston cosmetic dentists, Dr. Hedge and Dr. Frazar, fill all new cavities with composite resin and uses it to replace older amalgam fillings, as well. How can I safely whiten my teeth?
According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, it’s the most requested cosmetic dental procedure. We offer Zoom!® Whitening, which is a revolutionary teeth whitening system that has been proven to whiten teeth 6-10 shades in just one hour. If your teeth are severely stained, high-quality porcelain veneers may be a better option.
Can I straighten my teeth without wearing metal braces?
Absolutely. We offer Invisalign® clear braces, as well as porcelain veneers and LUMINEERS® to straighten your smile. Part of our job as your Houston cosmetic dentist is to make sure that we provide the best solution to improve your smile.
What are one-visit crowns?
With innovative CEREC® technology, we can custom-mill crowns in just one visit. This means that you get a custom-made, all-white, reliable restoration with no temporary restoration, and absolutely no follow-up visits.
My smile is missing teeth. What do you suggest I do?
During your initial consultation, we’ll assess your oral health and discuss options for replacement teeth. You have a variety of options, however dental implants are preferred by many patients of our patients.
What is a digital X-ray, and how is it different from traditional X-rays?
Digital X-rays are much safer than traditional X-rays, and emit approximately 75-80% less radiation. Detailed images are immediately available for easy viewing and can be digitally transferred via the Internet to insurance companies and specialists. Digital X-rays are just better for all of the parties involved!
What is the difference between veneers and LUMINEERS®?
LUMINEERS® are actually a brand of veneers that require very little tooth preparation prior to drilling. Some patients prefer minimal or no-prep veneers because of the quick application and reduced risk for sensitivity, while others like the convenience of GlamSmile™. Dr. Hedge & Dr. Frazar will advise you as to which option is best for you, but ultimately, it’s your decision.
