Patients who are in need of a full mouth reconstruction have needs that go beyond just a single procedure; they have advanced dental needs that are threatening their health. We use full mouth reconstructions to help patients with even the most severe cases return their smiles to a beautiful, healthy state.

What Problems Can a Full Mouth Reconstruction Correct?

Some of the problems that may be corrected during a full mouth reconstruction include:

Tooth decay

Worn down teeth

Gum disease

Damage sustained due to trauma

TMJ pain

What Treatments Are Involved in a Full Mouth Reconstruction?

The treatments used will vary depending on the individual’s needs and circumstances. Here are a few of the treatments commonly used during a full mouth reconstruction:

Dental implants are an excellent way to restore the functionality of your mouth if you are missing a tooth or multiple teeth, or if you have had to have teeth removed. A titanium post is implanted into the gums to support a crown, replacing the missing tooth permanently and restoring one’s ability to eat and speak normally.

Gum disease therapy treats gum disease that can lead to tooth loss, as well as serious health conditions such as heart disease.

TMJ therapy can treat TMJ disorders that may be causing pain or discomfort. If the TMJ disorder is due to a bite problem, we can fit patients for an appliance that corrects the issue and alleviates the pressure placed on the joint.

Invisalign® invisible braces move the teeth into their proper locations quickly and effectively without the inconveniences of metal braces.

Teeth whitening treatments eliminate even deep stains on the teeth and whiten the teeth by as many as eight shades in a single office visit.

Porcelain veneers cover the fronts of the teeth to dramatically improve the appearance of the smile.

A Dental Dream Team You Can Trust

Undergoing a full mouth reconstruction means trusting your dental health to a team of dentists. It is important to be sure the team you have selected has plenty of experience with performing full mouth reconstructions.

Dr. Frazar and Dr. Hedge have years of advanced training and experience in performing the many procedures that may be part of your treatment. You can feel confident choosing The Houston Dentists to restore your smile.

When you come in for a full mouth reconstruction, we will conduct a thorough exam and then immediately get to work creating your custom treatment plan. Using smile imaging, we will show you what you can expect your smile to look like after treatment.

Getting your mouth to a healthier and more beautiful state can take several treatments and a significant amount of time. However, you should know that restoring your smile is well worth the investment. Trust your smile to our skilled cosmetic dentists. Call us today to schedule your free, no-obligation consultation.

Most people are unaware of their temporo-mandibular joint, or TMJ, until they begin experiencing TMJ pain. The joint, located in front of each ear, allows you to open and close your mouth and to move your jaw from side to side. In the case of TMJ disorder, movements used to chew, speak, and yawn can become very painful.

The good news is that there are several options available to treat TMJ pain. Though surgery is one treatment option, there are several non-surgical treatments available in our office. Using a variety of treatments, we help our patients experience much-needed relief from the pain caused by TMJ disorders.

Understanding TMJ Pain

There are a number of factors that may cause a TMJ disorder. However, TMJ pain most frequently occurs due to displacement of the articular disc. Other possible causes of TMJ disorder include:

Changes in your bite

Arthritis

Trauma (an accident or teeth grinding)

Stress (your TMJ is very sensitive to not only physical stress, but also emotional/psychological stress)

A TMJ disorder can manifest itself in many different ways. Symptoms of a TMJ disorder may include:

Pain in the jaw, ear, neck, shoulder, and/or temple

Pain while chewing

Chronic headaches

Jaw clicking/popping

Jaw “locking up,” difficulty opening or closing the mouth

Treating TMJ Pain

Visiting a dentist is the first step toward treating a TMJ disorder and getting relief from TMJ pain. We are able to give patients much-needed pain relief using effective treatments outside of invasive surgery.

For TMJ pain caused by disc displacement, we will recommend ways to rest the joint and allow time for the area to heal.

If your pain is caused by a misalignment, we can fit you for an appliance to correct your bite and alleviate your discomfort. Use of an appliance can relieve the pressure placed on the joint and significantly reduce or completely eliminate TMJ pain.

If the pain is due to trauma, we can recommend at-home treatments to reduce and manage pain as the joint or surrounding muscles heal.

For pain caused by stress, we can help you find ways to reduce your stress and treat your symptoms.

Caring for Your TMJ Disorder

In addition to the treatments we provide, there are some tips we give our patients to keep them feeling as comfortable as possible. If you suffer from TMJ pain, we recommend the following:

Avoid foods that are chewy or very hard, such as hard candies, and take smaller bites. If you are experiencing TMJ pain, you need to “baby” your jaw.

Be sure to avoid chewing on only one side of your mouth; alternate which side you use to chew to prevent placing uneven pressure on your jaw.

Avoid stress as much as possible, as stress can worsen TMJ symptoms.

Anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, can provide pain relief.

As anyone who has suffered from a TMJ disorder knows, the pain can be debilitating. Fortunately, there are several treatment options available without having to undergo surgery.

If you are experiencing jaw pain or other TMJ-like symptoms, contact The Houston Dentists. We help patients experience much-needed relief from TMJ disorders.

We provide an excellent system for teeth straightening without braces –Invisalign® — and it’s available at our Houston, TX dentist office!

Invisalign is an FDA-approved system of clear aligners designed to move the teeth into place without compromising the patient’s appearance. It is an excellent choice for adults who are ready for a straighter smile.

Straightening Your Teeth Without Braces

There are many reasons adults frequently do not want to wear metal braces: they are inconvenient, uncomfortable, and many consider them to be unattractive. Invisalign is the ideal alternative for adults who do not want to wear unsightly braces yet desire a straighter smile.

Invisalign clear braces work just as well as metal braces, and they often involve a shorter amount of time to complete the treatment than traditional braces. The series of aligners is designed to shift your teeth into place as quickly and comfortably as possible.

Why Adults Choose Invisalign

More and more adults are choosing our Invisalign providers in Houston to give them straighter, more attractive smiles. Here are some of the benefits of selecting Invisalign.

By far one of the biggest reasons adults are choosing Invisalign is because the aligners are virtually invisible. Invisalign aligners do not alter one’s appearance, unlike metal braces, which are very noticeable. Most people will not even realize you are wearing your aligners.

Metal braces can make flossing and brushing one’s teeth difficult, and they require patients to avoid certain foods that could stick to or break a bracket. Invisalign aligners, however, are taken out during meals and before brushing and flossing, making them a much more convenient choice.

Patients find Invisalign to be a much more comfortable way to straighten their teeth. Metal braces can irritate the inside of your mouth, but Invisalign aligners are made of smooth plastic that is comfortable to wear. Your aligners are custom created for your mouth, guaranteeing a comfortable fit.

Invisalign requires fewer and less frequent appointments than metal braces, which makes it an ideal option for busy adults. Plus, you’ll never have to make an appointment for a broken bracket or wire.

An added benefit of Invisalign is that you can put whitening gel right into the aligners, enabling you to whiten and straighten your teeth at the same time.

Ready for a Straighter Smile?

The very first step to getting a straighter smile with Invisalign is to schedule a consultation. Our cosmetic dentists will evaluate your oral health and determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign.

If you and your dentist decide Invisalign is right for you, the next step is to formulate a treatment plan. Using smile imaging technology, we can show you exactly what your smile will look like after your treatment.

If you are tired of your smile imperfections and are ready to straighten your teeth, it’s time to schedule an Invisalign consultation with The Houston Dentists. With Invisalign, Houston patients can straighten their smiles without traditional braces. To schedule your appointment, call 713-701-1783.

Sleep apnea is much more than snoring; it is a health condition that can be deadly. The most common form is obstructive sleep apnea, or apnea caused by an obstruction to the airway. Sleep apnea is marked by multiple cessations in breathing throughout the night, causing the brain to “wake up” each time and preventing sufferers from getting deep, adequate sleep. To treat obstructive sleep apnea, the airway must be kept open.

If you have recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea, you may be wondering whether CPAP or SOMNOmed® is the right treatment for you. Here, we compare these two options used to treat obstructive sleep apnea.

CPAP

A CPAP machine is a continuous positive airway pressure machine. It pushes pressurized air from the room through a hose and into a mask worn by the patient throughout the night. The pressurized air prevents the airway from collapsing, thus preventing sleep apnea.

While a very effective treatment, a CPAP can cause some unpleasant side effects. Patients sometimes experience congestion, runny nose, sore throat, or irritation where the mask sits on the face. If the mask does not fit properly, the air may leak.

Patients also sometimes report having a difficult time getting used to wearing a CPAP. Sometimes, this discomfort leads to patients seeking an alternative sleep apnea treatment.

SOMNOmed

SOMNOmed is a dental device worn at night to keep the airway open and prevent snoring.

The SOMNOmed is designed to move the jaw slightly to prevent obstruction of the airway. The device consists of two pieces and is custom designed for the patient’s comfort.

Unlike a CPAP, the SOMNOmed device allows patients to speak and drink during usage.

SOMNOmed is the latest technology in sleep apnea treatment. It is largely considered to be a more comfortable treatment option.

Why Choose SOMNOmed?

Though both a CPAP and a SOMNOmed device can be efficient treatments for sleep apnea, we more often recommend SOMNOmed for our patients.

SOMNOmed is often a much more comfortable choice for patients because it consists of a simple device worn in the mouth at night rather than a mask and hose. Because it is more comfortable and less “clunky,” patients are more likely to use it regularly.

Unlike a CPAP machine, which can sometimes make noise, SOMNOmed is a completely silent treatment. With SOMNOmed, Houston patients can truly get a good night’s sleep.

For patients with health insurance diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, we offer a low co-pay of $650 for a SOMNOmed device, making it an affordable treatment option.

SOMNOmed from The Houston Dentists

Houston sleep apnea dentists Dr. Frazar and Dr. Hedge highly recommend SOMNOmed for sleep apnea treatment. Sleep apnea is a serious condition that, left untreated, is a major threat to one’s health. The condition prevents patients from getting quality sleep at night, impacting their health in a variety of ways. Risks associated with sleep apnea include:

Daytime sleepiness/drowsy driving

Heart attack

Stroke

Diabetes

Weight gain

Pregnancy complications

If you or a loved one are struggling with sleep apnea, please know that there are treatment options beyond a traditional CPAP. Call The Houston Dentists today to schedule your free, no-obligation sleep apnea consultation and learn more about whether a CPAP or SOMNOmed device can help you get the rest you need.

However, you need to consider your options. Not all Houston implants dentists are created equal.

If you’re looking for some of the best dental implants in the Houston area, consider our doctors here at The Houston Dentists.

There are several reasons why we are among the top-notch providers of implants. The main reasons include the fact that our dentists have experience in all things related to implants, and we have a resident periodontist on staff to perform implants surgery.

The Advantages of Dental Implants

A dental implant is essentially an artificial tooth root. Dental implants are made of durable titanium, and are anchored directly into the jawbone, creating a tooth root that is oftentimes even stronger than the original.

If you have one or more missing teeth, there are several advantages to getting a set of dental implants. Dental implants are a versatile solution to tooth replacement.

They can be coupled with the following replacement techniques in order to rejuvenate your smile:

A porcelain crown to replace a single missing tooth

A dental bridge to replace a few missing teeth

A partial denture to replace several missing teeth

A full-set denture to replace multiple missing teeth

Therefore, you can see that dental implants are a viable solution to your problems with missing teeth, and they can permanently give you the results you need in order to improve your health and your self-confidence.

Choosing Dentists With Knowledge, Experience, and Expertise

If you’re looking for providers of dental implants, you need dentists who understand the intricacies of the implants procedure. You need dentists who practice this procedure with deft precision.

In order to illustrate the kind of experience and expertise needed to successfully apply dental implants, this is the basic implants process:

First, your smile will be evaluated to see which implants option best fits your needs.

One of our dentists will then custom create a dental implant in our lab.

You will then undergo oral surgery so your dental implant is placed directly into your jaw bone, replacing the missing tooth root.

Your implant will be given time to fuse with your jaw bone, thereby making it stable and permanent.

Afterwards, one of our dentists will use a crown, bridge, or denture to replace your missing teeth.

The Importance of Periodontics and Implants

One of the things we pride ourselves on is the fact that we have a resident periodontist, Dr. Raouf Hanna, on staff to perform implants procedures.

As a periodontist, Dr. Hanna understands tooth structure and the surrounding tissues, thereby making him the ideal doctor for implantology.

We also practice top-notch sedation dentistry so you will barely feel any pain when you have your implants surgery.

If you’re interested in getting implants in Houston, our dentists would love to help you. Call our practice today for a complimentary consultation at 713-701-1783.

If you’re interested in orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, allow our Houston Invisalign dentists to demonstrate exactly how Invisalign works, and what the primary benefits of Invisalign are.

Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar are among the top-notch Invisalign dentists in the Houston area, and they can demonstrate how Invisalign can straighten your teeth, and how Invisalign adult braces can be customized to fit your individual smile-straightening needs.

Why Straighten Your Smile With Invisalign?

If you’re wondering why you should straighten your smile with Invisalign, there are a few facts to consider. The fact of the matter is that Invisalign is quickly becoming the gold standard in orthodontic treatment, and more and more dentists are making Invisalign their primary orthodontic treatment option.

There are a variety of reasons why Invisalign clear braces are so beneficial. These include:

Invisalign braces are comprised of a series of clear aligning trays. These trays are completely transparent, and therefore unnoticeable to the naked eye.

The clear aligners are removable. This means that you will still be able to enjoy all of your favorite foods, and eat meals without the mess.

Invisalign clear aligners are made of a strong plastic material which is gentle on your mouth and gums. As opposed to traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners will not cut your gums or cause abrasions in your mouth.

Invisalign clear braces can treat even the most severe smile problems, thereby negating the need for unsightly metal braces.

Invisalign adult braces are not just for adults. Teens are also candidates for Invisalign, so even in high school, you don’t have to sacrifice your self-esteem for orthodontics.

These are just a few of the many benefits of Invisalign. Invisalign clear aligners also have several other advantages, and these include the fact that Invisalign aligners can be customized to fix your smile.

Custom Invisalign Aligners From Our Cosmetic Dentists

As previously stated, Invisalign aligning trays can be completely customized to fit your individual orthodontic needs.

This is the method by which your aligners are customized:

First, you will have an initial evaluation in which our cosmetic dentists will create a 3D image of your smile. This imaging is used to begin the design of your Invisalign treatment plan.

A treatment plan is then devised by our dentists. Using 3D computer rendering, you will be able to see the end results of your Invisalign treatment.

Your aligners are then custom created in one of our labs to fit your treatment plan.

You will wear these aligners for 1 to 2 years, changing them out every 2 to 3 weeks until your smile is straightened.

Therefore, you can see how Invisalign customized aligners can help you achieve the smile results you want. Our Houston cosmetic dentists can provide you with Invisalign treatment that can truly help you achieve the smile you want. For a complimentary consultation about the benefits of customized Invisalign aligners in Houston, call our office today at 713-701-1783.

However, you may have hesitations because of the time it takes to achieve results with standard Invsialign treatment.

Well, there is a new innovation in Invisalign. That innovation is Invisalign Express 5. Invisalign Express 5 is a new alternative to traditional Invisalign because this new method can straighten your teeth in a much quicker manner.

If you’re interested in getting Invisalign from a Houston Invisalign Express 5 dentist, consider choosing our Houston dentists. Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar will gladly show you the benefits of this new treatment, and will illuminate how Invisalign Express 5 can be your clear braces solution.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is one of the latest innovations in cosmetic orthodontics. Invisalign is distinctly different from traditional orthodontic metal braces in the sense that Invisalign will not cause the same pain as metal braces, and you will not suffer the same sense of self-consciousness associated with traditional metal braces.

Invisalign is comprised of a series of clear plastic aligners, which will gently straighten your teeth over a period of time. These aligners are removable and clear so you will not have to be self-conscious, nor will you have to sacrifice your favorite foods.

In addition, Invisalign clear braces will not cut your mouth or cause abrasions in the same way metal braces will.

What’s the Difference Between Regular Invisalign and Invisalign Express 5?

There is a distinct difference between Invisalign and Invisalign Express 5 clear braces. These major differences include:

The same benefits as traditional Invisalign, including the clarity, comfort, and convenience of Invisalign

The ability to straighten your teeth quickly and effectively

Cost effectiveness

Invisalign Express 5 is recommended for persons with minor spacing issues and crowding in their smile. These clear braces take only 5 aligning trays to straighten your smile. They apply a greater force to your teeth, and can remedy your problems in a matter of months, not years!

Invisalign Express 5 and Cost Effectiveness

Not only is Invisalign Express 5 a simple and quick method to straighten your smile, it is also cost-effective at only $1900. Since Invisalign Express 5 does not require the same number of aligners, nor does it require the same amount of time to complete, the method is significantly less expensive than its traditional counterpart.

Finding The Right Invisalign Express 5 Dentist in Houston

We sincerely hope that you will choose our Invisalign dentists for your orthodontic needs. The principal benefits which we offer include a sense of individual dedication, dental experience, and the ability to provide cost-effective treatment. Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar have provided numerous Houston residents with Invisalign treatment, and they are on the forefront of Invisalign technology.

If you’ve already had a dental implant, there are still risks of that implant failing. Sometimes your implant will lose its grip on your existing bone tissue, causing this implant to fail. You may be worried that there is no hope of saving your dental implant, however this is not the case.

Even if you have a failing implant, you can replace your implants with a quality implants dentist.

If you’re looking for Houston dentists for failing implants, Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar would love to help you. They would certainly like to give you the facts about failing implants, and show you how your implant can be replaced or saved.

Why is My Implant Failing?

A failing implant results from a degeneration of the bone structure surrounding your tooth. The degeneration of the bone structure stems from periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, seriously harms your bone structure. This infection of the gum tissue can transfer into the structure surrounding your bones, causing weakness and degeneration.

In this case, an implant can fail because of the weakness of your bone structure, causing the implant to lose its grip.

Who Should Restore My Implant?

If you’re looking for a dentist to restore implants, you need a dentist who has specialized training– you need a periodontist.

A periodontist is best suited to restore or replace your implants because:

A periodontist is a specialist in gum tissue and bone structure.

Because of this specialization, a periodontist can best treat dental implants and restore dental implants

How Can My Implant Be Restored?

If you’re afraid that you won’t be able to renew your implant because of periodontal disease, don’t worry. A periodontist can reverse this situation. There are several ways a periodontist can help through a complex and effective implant restoration process.

A periodontist can save an implant by:

Opening a flap with a scalpel and trying to luxate the implant.

If it is too solid, a dentist can use a LANAP protocol to disinfect the surface of the implant.

The dentist will then provide a thick fibrin blood clot to promote bone regeneration.

He or she can complete the treatment with the PerioLase® MVP-7™ in a hemostasis setting.

In a few months time, the patient can have a 100% regenerated bone, and an implant that is restorable.

Through these precision techniques, a periodontist can give a patient a completely restored implant in order to keep a patient’s smile healthy!

So many people suffer from the negative consequences of teeth grinding, which can result in worn down teeth and other serious risks to your oral health. Some people pass this off as a simple bad habit, however, in actuality, these persons may be suffering from occlusal disorder (OD).

Occlusal disorder results from a bite misalignment that leads to worn down teeth and other serious health problems. However, there is a viable solution to these problems.

That solution is a Tekscan® analysis from our qualified Houston dentists. If you decide to receive this analysis, your misaligned bite can be diagnosed and remedied.

What is a Tekscan Analysis?

Check out the video below to see Dr. Hedge performing a Tekscan analysis on one of his patients:

The analysis, also known as a T-Scan® occlusal analysis, is a new innovation in dental technology that will allow a dentist to effectively detect occlusal disorder, and design a customized treatment plan to give you a clinical bite adjustment.

A T-Scan works in the following ways:

You will bite down on a thin sensor.

This sensor will analyze your bite, providing our dentist with a bite force measurement.

Based on this measurement, our dentist will be able to design an individualized treatment plan to remedy your occlusal disorder.

How Can a Tekscan Analysis Improve My Health?

It is important to remember that occlusal disorder is a serious condition that should be treated as soon as possible. This is because occlusal disorder can cause the following problems:

Damage to restorations, such as crowns and bridges

Teeth fractures

Receding of the gums

Loose teeth

Pain in your mouth

Grinding of your teeth at night

Severe headaches

Sensitive teeth

There are several ways to know if you are at risk for occlusal disorder. These symptoms
include:

Headaches

Stiffness in your jaw

Sensitive teeth

Neck pain

Back pain

If you have the aforementioned problems, you may be at risk for this disorder. However, our trained dentists, Dr. Tom Hedge and Dr. Kathy Frazar, can provide you with effective treatment to ensure that your dental health can be improved, and you can alleviate all of these symptoms.
